This section is about how to redraw missing areas on your page, for example thoughts which overlaps the art, or broken art because of faulty scanning. It is written for Photoshop CS2, but it should work basically the same on previous versions as well as CS3 and CS4.
The page begins with explaining the different tools and what they do differently -- and then moves on to very simple examples and how it works. The level of difficulty will then gain, and more advanced examples will be given. You will be able to download some of these redraws from the Test section. And even if your versions does not turn out that great, seek advice from others on what you could improve, and then practice some more.
Working towards mastering the cloning techniques is all about gaining experience. You do not need much artistic talent to be doing this. I have trouble even drawing a stickman, and when I after hours of trying manages to draw one, it looks like a horny badger. Not that horny badgers are a Bad Thing per se; but I was aiming for a stickman. Nonetheless, extensive redrawing covers my history; which shows that artistic ability is not a must. The one thing you do need, though, is a bit of imagination and knowing your tools and gadgets. The tools in question being the Clonestamp and Healing brush. You should read into them.
[edit] Preparing
Before starting to redraw, it takes some worrying and staring off off your mind if you remove everything of what you are going to redraw, first. Select the magic wand and set it to a rather high tolerance, such as 64 -- though 32 ought be enough -- and select the characters that should go away. Proceed to Select->Modify->Expand... and put a reasonable value there. 1 for images with low resolution, and 3-4 for higher ones.
Then fill the area with white in your redraw layer. Or if you stubbornly enough want to manipulate the source layer you can just hit Delete. This'll make it easier to see what is missing in the gaps, even if the example is quite basic ;) If your raws are not already properly cleaned you will need to level or dodge a bit around where the characters were, since dirt has a fetish for setting up camp around them. If you are editing a low quality scan and above-mentioned method will not work, use Eraser or white brush to erase the original characters.
